You love solving the riddles of how game mechanics interact through system design. You live to figure out ways to simplify and streamline your designs. You believe that elegance should exist not only for the player, but in the design of the systems that drive the game. You’ve also worked on games before, shipped several, and can develop and foster a project from beginning to end, driving the design if necessary. If this sounds like it’s a fit for you, we think a Senior Design position at Jet Set may be up your alley.
If this is your gig, here’s what you’ll do:
- Create and maintain elegant game systems for a variety of entertainment products. It’s mostly on games — but hey, we sneak in non-game stuff from time to time
- Supervise and work with junior designers to create and develop various game titles
- Create and maintain design documents for games and the occasional application
- Collaborate with senior staff, the artists and programmers to create great entertainment products
- Create level layouts using proprietary editors, dependent on the platform
- Design user interface layouts and flows for both games and application projects
- Test and debug work while in production
- Work with the rest of the team to come up with new and exciting properties for the game and app markets
You’ll also need these qualifications:
- Passion for games and their underlying mechanics
- A bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years of industry experience in game design
- Design credit on at least 2 or more shipped game titles, Senior Designer or Lead Designer credit preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Fluency with game production pipelines
- Fluency in at least one game-based scripting language (Python, Lua, etc)
- Ability to dig and respond intelligently to the crazy jive that programmers and artists can throw around from time to time.
- Practical experience with Office / iWork apps and their usage
- Self-motivation and a strong drive to see projects through to completion
- A flexible attitude towards game development and core features
